California Nuts

Just thought I would start a string for odd ball stories from California--an homage to the New York strings of a similar flavor. Here is a story that I found slightly odd. Ever wonder what happens to all those extra pumpkins after Halloween? Well, it turns out that here in the Bay Area they feed them to the zoo animals. Check out this post:

Feel free to add as you come across stories that fit the catagory.

Okay, that's pretty good. I'm still digesting that one but I'll be sure to add my own and to keep my eyes and ears open for more. I wonder if that is specific to California or if every state does that...

Okay, maybe other states feed pumpkins to their zoo animals too. How about the police closing down the streets around a suspected grenade juggler? Check this out:

I'm not sure that that is particular to SF either, but I suspect it would have gone over differently in other states.

I wonder if he is related to the bomb guy on the Bay Bridge from last week. Anyone experience that one?

Yikes! Do you mean the guy who had kidnapped his daughter and threatened to blow up the bridge. I guess his daughter got away and everything was fine in the end. Is that right?

I don't think the performer was in the same catagory--just poor judgement in his case--not mentally disturbed I don't think.

Did you hear about the Chuck-E-Cheese that got taken over by robbers last week down your way. Pretty crazy--grabbing kids and putting guns to their heads and the whole bit. Hopefully they get those guys.

Whoa! Didn't hear about that one until now. It almost sounds like a tasteless comedy that flops so badly that it goes straight to DVD oblivion. Anyway, here is an article:

Apparently it happened in Newark, which is generally a pretty low-key town from what I know of it. Seriously, people...
