Is there any flexibility in choosing public secondary college?

I recently bought a house on the beach side of Cheltenham. I found that the location of my house has almost equal distances to three public secondary colleges: Cheltenham SC, Sandringham College and Mentone girls SC, is that means I do have the flexibility to choose any one of them for my kids based on my own preferences? if yes, which one of them is recommended? Thanks a lot !

Hi Qingmai,

My advice would be to take a look at the website for each school. You will notice that most secondary schools nowadays have a zone. If you live within a school's designated "zone" then you will have guaranteed or first priority when you enrol your children into that school. If you live outside the zone, then you will need to depend on that school having available positions within your child's year level when you apply.

As you live beach-side of Nepean Hwy in Cheltenham, you will not be in each school's "guaranteed" zone as Mentone GC and Sandringham SC's zone is beach-side of Park Rd, whereas Cheltenham SC's zone is between Park Rd and Nepean Hwy.

Here are the links for each of the 3 schools you have mentioned. Hopefully this helps:
