Air and Water Show

Air and Water Show

It is the longest running show of its kind and the largest free air and water exhibition in the US.

The crowds are crazy (in my opinion) so I avoid it like the plague- but I do enjoy watching the air portion from high rise apartments in the area. Another "trick" I use to avoid the crowd is to watch the plane fly over a beach in Evanston. By doing this I see a lot of the aircraft, however, I miss out on a lot of the 'show' aspect. To me though it is worth it.

Oh how I LOVE this show!!! I remember going as a child. Don't get to go every year, but I've made the trek to the lakefront many times in my adulthood. Even found a few favorite spots that aren't as crowded as the main viewing area at North Avenue.

I agree the crowds are crazy, pretty much ANYWHERE along the lakefront but especially the closer you go to North Avenue. And of course it's very loud when the jets fly over. But it IS only once a year so I don't mind. When and where else can you get to see those Blue Angels flying around in formation?!? At one show a few years ago, it was my first time seeing fireworks in the daytime! And when else do you get to see folks parachuting onto the beach? I heard Vince Vaughn was the celebrity parachuter this year (with his mom).

I didn't get out to the lakefront to see the action myself this year. But I really enjoyed seeing the Blue Angels circle past my hi-rise windows as they headed north. I hardly noticed the noise. As you said, it was worth it!
