There are many local rescue groups that have many wonderful pets who need homes. I also recommend adopting from a shelter, such as the Hamilton County SPCA, as this will save an animal from being needlessly killed.

If you are looking to adopt a pet, there are many local shelters and rescue groups that you can adopt from. The Hamilton County SPCA has several locations in the Cincinnati area where you can adopt a dog or a cat. There are also many excellent rescue groups. Recycled Doggies rescues dogs from high kill shelters and places the dogs with fosters until they are adopted. If you are looking for a cat, both Ohio Alley Cat Rescue and Cincinnati Cats have many cats in need of adoption. Another rescue with both dogs and cats is Save the Animals Foundation. You can find more information about these groups by checking Petfinder online or by visiting many of the local pet supply stores, such as PetsMart. PetsMart, Petco and other local pet supply stores typically host weekend adoption events featuring many different local rescues.

If you have a pet you can no longer care for, I don't recommend taking your pet to a shelter, because most of the ones in the area euthanize. Check a rescue group for assistance.
