What are the real pros and cons of Bayview. Is it a recommended place for a young family?

My main concern before moving to Bayview was sandflies after reading some forums online. We have lived here for about 4 months now and never been bitten by sandflies or even seen a single mosquito! I have been bitten by sandflies in Fannie Bay (near East point reserve) and Rapid Creek but never in Bayview. I live on the start of O'Ferrals Road so maybe there are less on this side. Probably also helps that I rarely go outside at night. I go running in the morning though before sun comes up and never been bitten. I did put aero guard on a few times when I first moved here thinking I needed it but now never use it as have not had any problems. We have 2 young girls 1 and 3 - also never been bitten here as far as I am aware. Got eaten alive once at east arm reserve (Fannie Bay) but that seemed to be a one off as been there other times and it was fine. My wife has never been bitten by sandflies and we have lived in Darwin (Coconut Grove and Bayview) for over 4 years. I think they seem to go after some people more than others too. There are a couple of play parks nearby to us approx. 200m and 800m which the kids enjoy. We like living here as it is away from housing commission and delinquents which seem to be a problem in a few suburbs / pockets around Darwin / Northern suburbs / Palmerston. Also have a great view across the marina from our living room which we really appreciate.

It is a beautiful suburb that is great for young families.
Unfortunately there are no shops close by to walk to and depending on where you are in Bayview you can have problems with midgies biting you when you are outside around sunset. Some areas are better than other for midgies.
Some properties have water & city views and there is a good mix of houses, villas and units available with prices for units starting in the 300k range up to multiple millions for waterfront houses.

colloquially known by the locals as Baygon View. You need a bottle of Baygon everywhere you venture in this suburb. Its a nice area but the sand flies will destroy you. Your children will have spots all over them from sand flies, not a good look.
