For stringed instruments and folk music The Denver Folklore Center is the best. Twist and Shout has a wide assortment of vinyl as well as cd's. Second spin has the best collection of used and movies, wax trax has the best collection of old singles, and odds and ends.

I completely agree with Ian. If you're looking for CDs, etc. Wax Trax is the place to go. When I was in high school (quite some time ago) and listening to a lot of alternative music, I could always find what I was looking for there, along with any kind of mainstream. Although I haven't been there in in some time, the staff is always incredibly helpful and it's just a fun place to see.

By music store I am assuming you mean a place to buy CD's, Albums, etc. My favorite is the legendary Wax Trax down on the corner of 13th and Washington. 2nd place I would give to Twist and Shout on Colfax and Elizabeth.

If you are looking for an Musical Instrument Store, try Kolacny Music on Broadway or Guitar Center near Park Meadows.
