"Quiet and safe"

I’ve lived in Dunlop for over 10 years. My neighbours have been great. The type that put your bins out and take them in when you forget. I’ve been single the last 3 years and they all keep an eye out and I know if I need help they’d be there. I’ve never had any issues with crime nor have any friends in the area. The local woolies is small but great for the little shops. Charnwood woolies is close by and is much larger. The schools in the area are fantastic all with great reputations. It’s only 10 minutes to Belconnen town center and about 25minures to the city enter, depending on traffic. Lovely walks around Dunlop Ponds. The children parks in the area are very basic compared to some of the newer suburbs. All in all a great area to live and bring up a family.

"People say it's God's land. It's actually DOG'S land. worst bogan trash land in Canberra!"

1- Big DANGEROUS dogs unleashed and two or three in every house out for walk or sometimes without owners running around are the no1 thing to consider . Google dog attacks in Dunlop on canberra times! Mauling kids and smaller dogs jumping fences and ruining your afternoon walks!

2- CHARNWOOD! its next to charnwood, so all the antisocial behaviour such as burglary, vandalism car skidding , and car theft are coming from that doubled suburb and if you go to its shopping precinct at night you can see wild teens, drug addicts and people looking for trouble!

3- Closest shopping centre, KIPPAX, is in holt CRIME hotspot . highest crime rate in west belconnen already the worst of canberra!

4- DEMOGRAPHICS of this suburb is mainly bogans, tradies and very little professionals, who after few years afford to go to better suburb and move on...so Charnwood Dunlop school is a school for both suburbs which is NOT a good school, with prevalent bullying and all sort of trouble from kids of lower socioeconomic backgrounds! Fraser school isn't bad if you are in its catchment, again some areas of CHARNWOOD is in it's catchment, TROUBLE!

5- no proper PUBLIC TRANSPORT. take two buses to get to and from city on most days, or one that goes to belconnen mall first then goes to city, takes 2 horus on weekends and on weekdays goes to lots of suburbs, so you need a car! and your insurance premium is higher than other suburbs.

6-No greeneries, ugly ponds close to NSW border in Dunlop Meadow areas full of mosquitos and snakes around it.
7- Most people who buy here are those who like "NEWISH" looking homes with bigger land size but can't afford in Molonglo valley suburbs or better suburbs of gungahlin similar house+ land size but as soon as they live 3-5 years there they move away due to its distance from Mall, lack of facilities and lack of community atmosphere...
8- Terrible playgrounds with no cover, old equipment and lazy landscaping , only one decent playground near Dunlop ponds.
9-Worst area of dunlop is east of kerrigan and parts awards charnwood! AVOID IT ALLTOGETHER

Get something with similler size house or slightly smaller size house but decent school, more central and newer and slightly smaller land in better suburbs, with better reputation or at least not next to a notorious suburb (incase of Dunlop next to CHARNWOOD) . There are plenty , Bonner , Jakka, Amaroo, Avoid most of Nugnnawal, Forde, Taylor, Mackeller, Melba, Florey, Avoid Kaleen-too many people with weapons there....and you will not regret it. You will regret Dunlop , it's cheaper for a reason!

Completely disagree with nearly all of this. Charnwood-Dunlop school has a great reputation and has done for many years. In the past maybe not but the school has come a long way in recent years.

Wow you must have lived in alot of suburbs to recommend them. I had more trouble in a beautiful street in ngunnawal than Ive had in dunlop and been here much longer too.
Also for new suburbs the crimes are shocking in Bonner and jacks.
As for dogs I see them roaming in every suburb as I work in about 7 suburbs a day.

definitely move to gungahlin if you want to be in traffic half your life.

"Youthful Appeal"

Dunlop is located around 14 kms north west of Canberra. It has been designed around a number of smaller estates of between 50 to 100 houses. These are The Meadows, Ginninderra Ridge, Ginninderra Ponds, Dunlop Hills and Jarramlee Park. It has quite a young population with over a quarter being under the age of fifteen. There are a wide array of playgrounds catering for all ages. There are also several parks with walking tracks and bike paths. There are a number of shopping centres within a 10 minute drive and numerous schools nearby. Although they have neither a local school or shopping centre neither are too far away. It is a great place to raise a family.

Great for

  • Family friendly
  • Great parks and gardens

Not great for

  • Lack of local amenities
  • Nightlife

Rentals in Dunlop

"Dunlop - a family friendly location."

Dunlop is a suburb of Belconnen that continues to provide home owners and investors alike with fantastic opportunities to purchase property. The now well established local shops, the Ginninderra Ponds, the many bike paths and walking trails and the feeling of space and been close to nature continue to be major factors in why people move to the area. Dunlop really is a place where kids can feel safe to play and for those with pets, there are plenty of options to get them out of the backyard and burn off some energy.
