Looking for a home in Gilles Plains?

"Unsafe and unkept"

Gilles Plains is the new Elizabeth. I felt very unsafe, always looking over my shoulder and anxious. I noticed suspicious loiterers hanging around in the dark. At one time there was a spate of car break-ins where the car windows around the area were smashed. Regular abusive arguments heard from within houses. Many people don't maintain their properties or the nature strips so there's weeds, overhanging bushes/trees, 3 corner jacks and smashed bottles to contend with: be prepared to duck and dodge. Huge cat problem with irresponsible owners leaving their cats to roam about the neighbourhood, breed, fight and kill wildlife. Also, some irresponsible dog owners not controlling dogs, I was attacked by one (luckily small) and my dog attacked by another (staffie). A lot of new developmentssub-divisions so there was construction inconvenience to deal with as well.

"One of the Nicest Neighborhoods"

Gilles Plains is One of the Nicest Neighbourhoods I have lived in. Stayed there for more than a couple of years. When my friends or family visited they were impressed by this neighbourhood. It has all the shopping places Woolys, Coles, Foodland, Westfield.....Its wonderful.
Though I have a question too for the more experienced ones about the Area Similar to GILLES PLAINS, SA in NSW....Thanks.

"We were happy there"

In the 10 years we lived in Gilles Plains we were very pleased with the area. The neighbours were friendly, and the facilities good. While we were there much of the old Gilles Plains was replaced by new house and being so close to the city property values have been excellent. Local shopping is excellent: Woolworths, Foodland, Coles, Bunnings, Tea Tree Plaza, etc. Modbury Hospital is close, as are bus services and the O-Bahn.

We didn't experience any safety problems, and always felt confident of support from our neighbours in the case of a medical emergency.

We thoroughly recommend the area.

"Fantastic Place :)"

Some tips why you should buy a place at or around this area....

Nice neighbors, Peaceful and quiet, Nice places to dine out or take away (Hogs Breath, Fasta Pasta, Dominoes and many others) For people that like to try different foods from different countries there's Indian and Chinese restaurants. They have Video Ezy if you want to stay at home and watch a movie. Gilles Plains Shopping Centre is around the corner for your groceries and other needs. (They have a News Agency there, City nails and Cottage Bread for a yummy snack) Tea Tree Plaza is also quite close by.

My daughter and I have lived here for about 3 and a half years and we don't plan on moving anytime soon. We have lovely neighbors that are very helpful to us. We see them about once everyday and whenever we talk with them it leads to a coffee and a friendly chat. There are a number of dogs and cats around but we've never had a problem with them. They're not aggressive and they don't dig in our garden or do their business on our lawn. Haha. It is very quiet at night even with the pets around us and you will always be guaranteed a goodnight sleep.

Rentals in Gilles Plains

"Great for young professionals"

Lived here for several years. There has been a lot of development lately with loads of new houses, certainly has changed the look of the suburb compared to say 10 years ago. Mostly young professionals in our little area. The suburb is in a good location in my opinion, transport is easy and I dont really need to head into the city for shopping, if I do it takes about 20-30 minutes by bus to get there. I've never experienced any break ins or vandalism and my neighbours are friendly.

If anything I'd say there is some disparity with regards to the "feel" of the suburb depending on which part of the suburb you are in. Some areas look new and clean while a few streets have older houses that are not as impeccable. Overall though, I am comfortable and happy here.

"Good, safe and convenient!"

Lived here for 2 years now, good neighbours, nice and quiet. I'm aware of the suburb's past reputation but if you drive through it now (especially between blacks road and wandana avenue) its nice and pleasant with new houses cropping up everywhere. No crime experienced so far, the Gilles Plains shopping centre just 3 minutes from where I live. Tea Tree Plaza is only about 10 minutes drive away and I can grab the bus to the city from Sudholdz road easily.

I'm not sure about the extreme crime described in one of the reviews here, we've not met any unsavory people so far and our street is generally nice and quiet. I think there may be some difference once you live in the area past Wandana Avenue, but I can't speak from real experience.

"Easy trip into the city from here"

On the North side of North East road Gilles Plains is not far from the city. It is an easy drive down North East Road. There is plenty of public transport that runs down to the city. There is also easy access to Paradise interchange on the obahn. The obahn will get you into the city or up to Tea Tree Plaza in a matter of minutes.
Gilles Plains shops have a good selection of shops and include a petrol station. North east Road also has a good selection of shops close by including a homebrew shop, a climbing wall and a pool hall just across the road
The area is well established and is a nice quiet area not far from the city. Gilles plain primary is close by just across Sudholz road in Hillcrest.
