What's around Clarke Terrace

House description

“A Truly Unique Waterfront Yurt Retreat”

Perched high on the north-eastern peninsular of Lamb Island at the tightly held Clarke’s Point, this extraordinary waterfront property occupies a truly rare position. Elevated approximately 13 metres above sea level and set on a generous 1,341m² parcel, the home borders the Clarke’s Point Nature Reserve, offering both privacy and a deep connection to the surrounding landscape. With community bushcare days held nearby, this is a place where nature is valued and protected.

Commanding breathtaking 270-degree water views, the outlook stretches across to North Stradbroke Island, north towards Peel Island and out to Moreton Island in the distance. The views are expansive, uninterrupted and ever-changing — a constant reminder that this is a special place.

The home itself is unlike anything else on the island. Built in the mid-1990s by Brian Forbes, a highly regarded Australian builder who has specialised in yurt-style construction since 1987 — and who famously appeared on ABC Television’s The New Inventors — this striking 12-sided residence is crowned by a central cupola and soaring cathedral ceiling that reaches approximately four metres in height. Lined with beautifully polished pine, the upper level is a true architectural statement and a sight to behold.

Spanning two spacious levels, the home offers six bedrooms in total, with three upstairs and three downstairs, along with a bathroom and separate toilet on each level. The kitchen and main living areas are positioned upstairs to fully embrace the outlook, flowing seamlessly onto a large deck where the ocean views take centre stage. This is a peaceful, elevated retreat — worlds away from the pace of mainland life.

The property has had one owner only and is being offered to the market for the first time since its construction. It served as a private retreat for internationally acclaimed pianists Max Olding and Pamela Page, who sought refuge here from the pressures of their musical careers. The expansive ground floor once housed two grand pianos, and the home’s circular form creates a naturally harmonious atmosphere with exceptional acoustics. Over the years, music students would also stay in the home, adding to its creative and cultural legacy.

With its generous proportions and versatile layout, the property lends itself to a range of future possibilities. The ground floor could easily accommodate a yoga or wellness retreat, creative studio, workshop or multipurpose entertaining space — or continue its tradition as a music or arts retreat for those who value inspiration and tranquillity.

Extending from the main deck is a spectacular eight-sided gazebo, perfectly positioned for entertaining, quiet reflection or simply soaking in the panoramic water views and sea breezes.

This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to secure a truly unique waterfront home in one of Lamb Island’s most coveted and tightly held locations — a place of beauty, history and soul, ready to be appreciated by its next custodian.

ABOUT LAMB ISLAND

Lamb Island (Ngudooroo) is the second smallest of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands with excellent fishing, kayaking, sailing and deep water moorings on our doorstep.

We have about 500 residents and a small community feel compared to the larger suburban islands Russell and Macleay. Most people come here for the peace and quiet. The 1km x 2 km island is small enough that it's not necessary to have a vehicle, and many residents walk, have bikes, scooters or use the community-run Lamb Van public transport. Get your local honey, freshly roasted coffee, organic gardening supplies, local artwork and handmade soap from some of the local small businesses on Lamb.

There are many groups and activities to keep you occupied, from Yoga and Pilates classes, Qi Gong, pickleball and tennis, community bushcare days, to trivia nights and pool competitions at the Rec Club.

We have town water (which comes from the aquifer below the great sand island North Stradbroke), electricity, NBN internet, public tennis court (with flood lighting for night tournaments!), playground, BBQ and netted swimming area, off-leash dog park, community garden, free rubbish dump, Rural Fire Brigade, Lamb Island Recreational Club/Bar and a small shop. Eat-in or takeaway meals can be had at the Recreation Club or Zac’s shop.

Woolworths deliver here every day of the week for a small delivery fee. There are essentials such as schools, post office, pharmacies, medical centres, hardware stores and cafes on the neighbouring islands Macleay and Russell which are a free 5 minute inter-island ferry away.

We are just a 50c fare and 21 minute Translink passenger ferry ride to Redland Bay, Brisbane where there is limited free car parking and the Weinam Creek Development is in the pipeline. The vehicle barge now has a 50% subsidy for residents and is only approx $35 each way leaving from Redland Bay, Brisbane. The Island jetties have recently undergone a multi-million dollar major revamp with the addition of a recreational jetty for fishing and temporary mooring of tenders.

The islands are moving ahead and undergoing a building boom which is to be expected for a region only 50 mins to Brisbane City and 50 mins to the Gold Coast.

The secret's out and more people are discovering our beautiful islands and the unique lifestyle they offer.
