Chillagoe is a historic town famous for the Chillagoe-Mungana Caves National Parks. Explore Donna, Trezkinn and Royal Arch Caves on a guided ranger tour or enjoy self guided tours or walking trails throughout this area. The old Chillagoe smelters site is an excellent example of how the mining of copper, silver, lead and gold smelting at the turn of the 20th Century was done. The physical remains at the Chillagoe Smelters preserve important evidence of historic smelting processes that are rare today. Well worth a visit.
A quaint town with loads of history, even more to do especially if you love camping, walking, watching the stars, exploring the bush by 4WD or just living the quiet life in the bush yet only 2.5hours from Cairns.
