House description

“Mount Ubi Homestead - True pioneer history in the heart of Kenilworth, 3 Titles across 90 acres”

It is with great pleasure that Allister Millican and the team at Ray White Maleny HSL present this spectacular rural lifestyle property to market.

"Mt Ubi Homestead", is exactly the very definition of "blue chip rural lifestyle property" in the stunning Kenilworth region. The property, benefiting from 150+ years of care and pride in ownership, represents a spectacular opportunity for the new custodians.

Steeped in history with its story tracing back to 1868, and one of the most unique and pristine parcels of mixed use land in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, is proudly being offered to the market for the first time since 1979 in its 150+ year history.

Suiting agricultural lifestyle buyers, eco tourism operators (STCA) and hospitality operators (wedding/event operations (STCA)) this exceptional piece of history exemplifies the finest of standards for any of these pursuits.

The land holding comprises of:
• Just over 90 acres in land (entirely clear, and easy access)
• An original untouched 4 bedroom Queenslander home (ready for renovation)
• Large shed, and excellent cattle infrastructure
• Situated at the junction of the Obi Obi (645m river frontage) and Mary River (940m river frontage)
• 3 titles - 2 freehold (17.267ha and 14.22ha), one leasehold (5.075ha)
• Irrigation/Water license (current)
• In 2019, the MRCCCC (Australian Government Reef Trust) riverbank stabilisation project was completed and revegetation was established (3000 trees and associated irrigation/watering infrastructure). These seedlings are now 1.5/2.0 metres tall and flowering

There is scope to either renovate, or there are a number of areas ready for you to build your new home, adding and personalising the property to the highest of standards enables the prospective purchaser scope to build on to an iconic land holding.

This is an extremely rare opportunity to secure this size & calibre property, and it is with excitement and pleasure we present this property to market.

To discuss this spectacular property, please contact Allister Millican from Ray White Maleny HSL today as a property of this calibre will be highly sought after.

The history of Mt Ubi Homestead:
Under the new Land Act of 1868, Mr. A.E. Bonney took up a portion of Kenilworth Station - Portion 446, Parish of Maleny - an area of 444 acres. He named this property Mt Ubi. Subsequently several more blocks were added to the original property and formed Mt Ubi Estate.

In the 1880's a new "Homestead Act" was passed which threw open the remainder of the leasehold lands held by Kenilworth Run and Mt Ubi Station for closer settlement. The selector was required to personally reside on and make his livelihood from his selection. The blocks ranged from 160 to 640 acres according to the quality of the land - blocks with alluvial river flats were smaller. The price was fixed at two shillings and sixpence per acre.

Some years later Mr Bonney leased it to Mr William Tamlyn and Mr F.W. Rodgers (not the postmaster), and in 1897 Mt Ubi Estate changed ownership. Senator J. F. Walker of Sydney purchased the property and after a chance meeting with Mr. J. C. Hassall, his classmate from Geelong Grammar, Mr Hassall was appointed manager until it was cut up for closer settlement in 1925.

*The Australian Government's Reef Trust Phase IV is focused on riparian revegetation activities in priority catchments of the Great Barrier Reef which includes the Mary River catchment.

The MRCCC Reef Trust phase IV project is now in its fourth year targeting riverbank restoration. The project began in mid-2017 and continues. The aim of the project is to remediate streambank erosion in key river reaches and tributaries of the catchment that are contributing high sediment loads.
