Rural Property description

“'Melville Park' Brunswick's Heritage 54.77 Ha (135.33 Ac)”

'Melville Park' was settled shortly after 1849 by the Flaherty family and then taken over by Alfred Moore. It was further developed by Samuel McKay, who built the homestead and barn and was known for his thoroughbred horses at Melville Park, including standing the 1898 winner of the Perth Cup, a stallion called LeVar, for three guineas!

The large Edwardian/Federation styled brick and tiled homestead with extensive verandas was constructed in the 1880s. The homestead has been beautifully restored inside and out. The restoration included new iron roof, modernised bathrooms and kitchen, added family room, office and polished jarrah flooring. The house is beautifully positioned on an East-West orientation to capture the afternoon sea breeze.

The double storey brick and iron barn/stables with projecting central winch beam and doors over carriage opening was completed in 1895. The stooks of hay were stored in the loft above the horses. The barn has an excellently preserved wood block floor, one of the best in the State, along with two front rooms that were originally used for the groom's quarters and harness room. Original still in nature, one of the front rooms now houses a small farm shop. The barn has multiple possible uses to continue the profile of the property.

'Melville Park' now comprises two contiguous titles, Lots 55 & 51, with both adjoining the Brunswick River. The farm has three-phase power and access to a range of water sources including scheme, river, dam and bore. The last eight years has seen very little usage of mainstream chemicals, and with a strong soil profile, means that regenerative farming practices are ripe for the future.

The homestead is on Lot 55 along with the barn and all manner of farm sheds including the dairy shed.

This is the first opportunity for you to purchase 'Melville Park' since its makeover so you can become only the third family to take up residence since the Shine Family purchased the farm in 1927.
