Famed for it's beautiful Pine trees, visitors could be forgiven for asking, how did Palm Beach get it's name?

The story goes that back in the day, a Charles Dixon wanted a sign to direct visitors to the turn off to his home and in the discussion with the sign writer he spoke of the beauties of Pine Beach (as it was known then) and compared it favourably to Palm Beach in Florida where he had recently visited.

Apparently the sign writer confused the two names and when the sign was erected it read "To Palm Beach". The new arrivals accepted the new name as being correct - particularly as most of the existing Pine trees had been cut down for firewood and the new name stuck.
