Constructed by R.C. Foster in 1850, this beautiful sandstone/bluestone property has serviced a part of the colony history of architecture in rural Tasmania. Under Forster's ownership, the property was a storehouse the neighbouring hotel.

After Foster's death and still owned by the Foster family; the property became an entertainment centre being the only sizable meeting place in Avoca, meetings and social events. In 1937, Mr B O'Connor (landowner of nearby Benham) purchased the property and donated the building to the Anglican Church.

The address serviced as Community Hall for dances, concerts and public meetings; Sunday School for the Anglican Parish and in recent times the local post office for Avoca and nearby villages Rossarden and Royal George.
