“The Historic "Coach House" c1880 of Teneriffe”
We've all wondered when this historic home will be offered again to the market- For years us locals and visitors have driven or walked past and pointed fingers in awe of the position, character, opportunity and charm that this home oozes. Arguably the most sought after precinct in the peninsula, the "Coach House" is now again open for it's next caretaker and chapter of it's already colourful history.
Although looking shabby, the home is in surprisingly good order. The external timber work needs a paint but is straight, solid and workable, as is the internal original section of the home. The old adage of, "they don't make them like they used too, has never rung more true.
Huge potential for either a minor or large renovation and to have the Teneriffe Reserve as a neighbour is truly a rarity. The location is so peaceful, tranquil and inviting it leaves you questioning whether you really do live in the heart of Brisbane's most sought-after inner-city suburb.
The features:
- 3 bedrooms with sleep-out
- 1 bathroom
- Original floor boards, VJ's, fret work, windows and doors
- 271m2 of land
- 13.1m x 25.4m (Approximately)
A snippet of history in these parts:
"Of recent times Arthur Henricks and May Hickling who married in 1915 had ten (10) children, of the two remaining Merle resided in the Coach House up until this year. May herself lived in the house until she passed just prior to her 100th birthday.
In 1854, James Gibbon, former MLA and property speculator, known locally as 'Street Corner Jimmy' because he bought corner blocks, bought a parcel of land between Newstead and New Farm and named it Teneriffe, after Teneriffe Peak in the Canary Islands.
Gibbon was living at Kingsholme in New Farm before commissioning the construction of Teneriffe House in 1865, on what became known as Teneriffe Hill. The magnificent house cost 1715 pounds to build, and was constructed of rendered brick on a stone foundation. The house changed hands several times in its history and was converted to flats in the late 1960s.
We believe and many have confirmed it that this house was the "Coach House" of Teneriffe House."
