What's around Dalton Avenue

House description

“Sold By Harcourts Adelaide Hills!”

Where the Light Lives - "Sundance"
This is the kind of home you feel before you even step inside.

Where the morning sun dances across Mintaro slate paved floors, filtered through trees that have stood quietly for decades. Where winter mornings are warmed by the scent of woodsmoke curling from the slow-burning hearth. Where in stillness; mist drifts across the lake and birdsong replace the rush of the outside world.

A Newell Platten design with a client brief that called for mid-century modern, crafted in 1960 with a deep understanding of nature's rhythm, this home was built to breathe, welcoming light, capturing breezes, and nestling into the contours of the land as though it had always been there. It's one of South Australia's first solar passive homes, but you won't need to know the science to feel how effortlessly it holds the seasons. In 2012, a respectful and refined renovation by protege of Newell Platten, expanded and elevated the home while honouring its mid-century soul. The result is a seamless fusion of original character and modern eco-luxury.

And then there's the garden. Oh, the garden.
It hums with life, from raised veggie beds bursting with colour, to citrus trees heavy with fruit, to hens laying eggs as though they know they're part of something special. There's a quiet generosity to this place. It gives. Daily. In lemons, in shade, in sunsets.

Inside, everything has been curated with care, designer lighting that glows just right, handcrafted finishes that invite touch, and spaces that open, flow, and hold you. Cook barefoot in the Miele kitchen with the doors wide open to the breeze. Watch dusk settle with a glass in hand and a sense of deep, grounded peace.

This is not just a house. It's a sanctuary.
A place to live slowly, tread lightly, and feel deeply.
It doesn't shout. It soothes. It shelters. It shines.

Come walk through. Let it speak to you. You'll understand.

A brief experimentation with water chestnuts was interesting but frankly daft, and the owner has never had much success with basil and cannot figure out why. Pretty sure it's not the gardens, it's the gardener…

From the owners: Throughout the year, it would be a rare week where something from the garden wasn't on the table, and in the warmer months, pretty much daily, and often most of the plate. And, obviously Eggs - currently about 6 per day. The hens say they are happy to be offered with the property if desired. The ducks, rabbits, koalas, many many varieties of birds and occasional roos are also free to the right buyer.
