The historic Duke of Edinburgh Hotel (formerly Exchange Hotel) was established Circa 1853 in the then Commercial end of Fraser Street. The name change came about after a visit by Prince Alfred, (the Duke of Edinburgh) to the goldfields, and Clunes in 1869. It is a single storey brick building with many period features dating from the 1850s, including a large cellar, a unique ladies snug, original Baltic Pine wall paneling and flooring.

The hotel was de-licensed in 1919 and it became the family home of the Roberts family. Extensive renovation added, new living/dining rooms, and bedroom ensuites. Original brick walls frame a largely perennial and rose garden. The property opened to the public as a hosted bed & breakfast in 1999 and has become an integral part of the tourism, and community life of Clunes, check us out on www.tripadvisor.com.au.
