Welcome to our ‘little piece of paradise’. We call it Running Waters or in the local Gumbaynggirr language it’s Biirmadi Ngaarlu, and for us it is a place of tranquility and connection. With 5 acres of absolute riverfront to the beautiful Bellinger River, we’re about 20km up Darkwood Rd, with the Steiner School and public school just a short bus ride down the valley and about 40 min drive from Bellingen. Our home has 3 bedrooms with open plan living, bespoke red cedar and silver ash kitchen, polished timber floors and generous covered and semi covered verandahs where the sound and energy of the river continue to bless us on a daily basis.

Before we say anymore about the property we’d like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the Gumbaynggirr People as the traditional custodians of this land. We acknowledge their ancestors past, present and emerging
and we deeply thank them for the amazing care they have taken of this land over thousands and thousands of years so that we and others can enjoy it today.

The drive up Darkwood Rd is a beautiful experience, as the road and the river criss-cross up into the valley, taking us into a space that for us is magical. Leaving behind the ‘other world’ and entering a world where we enjoy deep connection with Mother Earth and all her abundance. Our unique 5 acre paradise enjoys plenty of sun, it’s mostly flat (quite rare around here) and offers deep, rich fertile soil throughout with many plantings already done and room for more if that’s what you want. We’ve planted over 50 fruit trees some that are now well established and others more recently planted, including avocado, mulberry, lemon, orange, grapefruit, guava, banana, fig and many more. Plus we’re growing lots of other food in our herb and veggie gardens, including turmeric, garlic, ginger, strawberries, blueberries, pumpkin, watermelon and lots of assorted greens all comfortably close to the kitchen.

We’ve got more garden beds ready to go, and a fully operational nursery with automatic irrigation ready to propagate more seedlings for planting on the property or for selling. Speaking of irrigation... we have installed 18 taps on hardwood timber posts at strategic locations across the property so you can easily access pressurised running water virtually anywhere. The taps are supplied by a demand feed, flood free electric pump, and we’ve also had 4 separate power boxes installed around the property so power is never far away, and they’re perfect for campsites when friends come to stay.

Our lovely home is set amongst lush tropical gardens with the semi covered verandah providing the perfect connection between the outside and inside worlds. Stepping into the air conditioned, open plan living area you’ll find beautiful polished timber floors, and a feature slow combustion fire for those cool winter months. The recently installed bespoke kitchen is a work of art, featuring local red cedar and silver ash in the bench tops and cupboards. There’s a large stainless steel oven with 5 burner cooktop, there’s lots of bench space, and delightful views from all the windows across the property to the river.

There’s a 6.5 kw solar array on the roof, a rustic garden shed that we think is really cute, plenty of handy storage space under the house, and the inside of the house is all freshly painted. The large central main bedroom is carpeted, with direct access to outside, and adjoins a private study and walk through wardrobe/storage space, while the other 2 bedrooms are both carpeted and offer good sized private spaces.

The bathroom offers a large corner bath and separate new shower enclosure, together with a beautiful timber and stone vanity unit, conveniently located close to all the bedrooms and adjacent to the separate toilet and the separate laundry. Oh… and there’s a good internet connection too!

Back outside now, there’s a large fully covered deck to the northwest and an even larger semi covered deck to the northeast overlooking the property and the riverfront boundary that provides around 300m of absolute riverfront with easy access for some cruisy canoeing, fantastic fishing or sumptuous swimming in the crystal clear waters flowing freely from the Dorrigo escarpment catchment upriver.

Riverside bush re-gen is well underway, with plenty done, and more seedlings ready to plant. We have always used organic permaculture principles with no chemicals, just ‘good ol’ sustainable practices and lots of love.

There’s a large shed (fire damaged but not from bushfires) on a big concrete slab with plenty of power, that has provided ample usable space for us, and could provide even more space if the walls and roof were to be renewed/replaced.

The native birds and wildlife here are abundant and you only need to sit for 10 minutes to get a good taste of what we’re talking about, including the occasional glimpse of a local platypus or the rare and endangered Bellinger River Snapping Turtle.

Have you ever dreamt about having your own outside fire-bath, hidden privately in a lush tropical garden, where you can relax in bliss while taking in the star filled sky above? Well... you’ll love the set up here. And how about your own private, covered yoga platform overhanging the river, that can also provide a beautiful, outdoor sleeping space, soothed by the running waters, working their healing ‘magic’.
