This property's land dates back to 1886. In 1900, Mr James Allan Rumble, the owner of a nearby Dinmore brick and pottery works, built this magnificent hand made brick cottage for him and his family and remanded in their family for 50+ years.
In its 120 years it has only past hands 3 times. The current family have owned it since 1989.
No doubt many Ipswich residents know this property but may never have known the history that lies between the walls of this rare handmade brick cottage.
Unlike most brick made homes of this era, Ivanhoe Cottage's interior walls have never been rendered. It is as if Mr Rumble was so proud of his brick work, that it would be a shame to cover them up.
Throughout the cottage you'll find various different styles of timber floorboards, each with their own character. The ceilings are pressed metal and for some reason, so are the walls in the lounge room. What could lie behind them?
