Wongaburra Scrub is located approximately 36km north of Naracoorte, 16km west of Frances, 335km south east of Adelaide and 490km west of Melbourne. The Wongaburra Scrub is in the heart of the rare red tail black cockatoo ranging area.
The habitat is near pristine with very few introduced non-native weeds.
Flora includes stringy bark gum, red gum specimen trees along with sapling wet land areas, bottle brush, wattle, banksia, blue & pink gums, while the understory includes numerous shrubs, grass trees, muntries and orchids.
Birdlife includes various cockatoo, parrot and small bird species (including painted button quail, crested shrike-tit, white winged chough and white browed babbler).
Fauna includes but is not limited to kangaroo, wallaby, echidna, emu, wombat, possum, sugar glider and bat colonies.
The weekender is a charming stone building with concrete floor, Oregon timber roof trusses and colourbond roof being constructed in 2007.
The walls are solid construction with the internals being Mount Gambier Stone rendered in the ?leaf bag? finish, while the external walls are a feature, utilising local freestone.
The building is 7m x 8m while a verandah on the northern outer wall is 8m x 1.8m.
Window frames are western red cedar while the mechanism and insect screens are metal.
Just a short walk from the main dwelling is the little house containing a dry composting system toilet. This building is approximately 1.7m square, being constructed at the same time and in keeping with the main dwelling.
