"Kappawanta Station" is an iconic and outstanding large pastoral lease located approx. 22km east of Elliston and 8km Northeast of Sheringa at 2212 Kappawanta Road on Eyre Peninsula, South Australia. The pastoral lease is approx. 21,800.0 Ha (53,867.8 acres) with a Maximum Stock Rate: 740 Cattle Equivalents. The region enjoys an approx. 400mm (16") reliable annual rainfall making natural grasses and feed abundant for livestock production. Well fenced into 14 main paddocks with approx. 40km of 5 single line wire and posts (under 10 years old) supplemented by approx. 70km limestone fencing. The country is predominately undulating open wood land to dense areas of mallee scrub. The soils are red/brown sandy/loam with limestone ridges which are typical of the grazing areas in the district. The property has over 2,000.0 Ha (4,942.0 acres) of large picturesque red gum trees scattered across the holdings.
Centrally located on the station is the iconic "Kappawanta" stone wool shed built in 1867 (originally a 10 blade shearing board) and now converted to a 5 stand overhead machine gear shearing board run by a 6hp Lister diesel engine. The wool shed has been re-wired for 240volt and can be run with a generator. Shed capacity is 450-500 sheep and the predominately stone sheep yards are in good condition and will hold up to 2,000 sheep. "Kappawanta" is renowned for producing high yielding clean wool.
North of the stone woolshed approx. 400m is the large 7 bedroom stone homestead in good condition. Recently re-roofed with corrugated iron and most of the outside veranda and stone work has been rendered to preserve the homesteads history. The homestead has been rewired for 240volt and is now powered by its own Lister diesel generator which is housed in its own nearby shed.
The property is serviced by underground water with 12 windmills on bores throughout the station; very good quality water is available at 5-7m on most bores. There are trap yards strategically located for mustering with numerous historical out buildings, shepherd hut, blacksmith shop, stables and horse yards across the property.
