With a pedigree dating back to the 1930's and supporting workers on the West Coast Hydro Electricity Scheme, in some of Tasmania's most rugged and challenging location, The Transportable homes were introduced ,inter-alia for an easier transportation to site. Metal clad windows that were draft proof, an efficient Wood Fire enclosed heater that heated the whole house and a building construction that kept 0ut the heaviest rain and storms, yet provided shelter from the sun in the summer months.

Possibly this home was moved to its present site (once described as the "Best Block in Town") in the 50's . Today it sits on one of the most Northerly Sites in Strahan, adjacent to Crown Land, magnificent on-site Gums and spectacular Bird life who turn up almost religiously for their evening meal. The home has been placed in an East/West configuration and situated on the highest point of the land with direct access to the sealed Lyell Highway via a 40 Meter Gravel driveway.
