House description

“SOLD by Kelly Allen ~ Experience MORE with Luton in Braidwood!!! Converted Church ~ Perfect Country Getaway”

This charming piece of Majors Creek history is a rare and special find. Situated in the quiet country town of Majors Creek only 13 minutes from Braidwood, sits this beautiful decommissioned Catholic Church formally known as St Marys Majors Creek. Surrounded by an established half an acre garden and built in 1936, this converted church features a huge living room with combustion fire place that opens out to a large north facing deck, one good size bedroom with walk in robe, a basic kitchen and bathroom. There is also a double garage, solar hot water and 2 water tanks. This building is in need of further renovations but would certainly suit someone looking for a very special place to call home or for a holiday retreat for their personal use and/or to lease as a quirky holiday letting i.e. AIR BNB!!

Currently leased until 23rd September at $220 p.w

More info about this little gem!!!

St Mary's Catholic Church Majors Creek was erected in 1936 on land donated by the Murphy family who owned the adjoining property. The old Catholic Church c 1869 was behind the hotel. A subscription list was opened and the little church to seat 80-90 people was built by Mr Jack Hall assisted by residents of the village.( Situated overlooking the village and a short distance from the public hall the new church presented an imposing appearance). It was of weatherboard construction with plaster lining painted cream and green with a neat picket fence in front. In the 1970's the church was sold and furnishings removed. The first people to buy it was Mr and Mrs Graham Evans followed by Mr and Mrs Eric Waring and others until the present day owner who has done so much to make it something to be proud of. April 1937 saw 300 people gather for the official opening with the building being debt free.
