What's around Addison Road

House description

“AN INTERNATIONALLY INFLUENCED FEDERATION ICON”

Glastonbury is one of Old Bolwarras most celebrated authentic Federation homes. Enjoying a renewed pride of place in its premium position, this renowned residence stands with prominence and grandeur deserving of its pedigree.

In the previous four years, the property has undergone significant transformation. Investment into several upgrades have elevated the propertys aesthetics, standard of living and level of comfort.

Circa 1912, Glastonbury was the family home of eminent architect WH Pender (son of the prolific JW Pender). It is a well preserved example of fine Federation architecture featuring all the hallmarks characterising this era of building.

Original defining features include intricate leadlight windows, three ornate fireplaces, high decorative plaster ceilings and its solid double brick construction that has conquered the test of time.

More recently completed construction can be found in the total renovation of the original servants quarters/ garage into the now versatile, self-contained accommodation or studio/workshop space with a new wet room and kitchenette. Multiple french doors frame views over the surrounding picturesque gardens whilst providing access to the reclaimed private alfresco area overlooking the pool and leafy orchard.

Finished to match the building style and quality of the residence, this valuable addition including an extension of the carport increases both functionality and the huge amount of potential for the future of this iconic property.

Within the home itself, the original wide floorboards have been re-conditioned and polished in the front part of the home, adding to the palette of rich deep colours and finishes.

As the beneficiary of the current owners collection of international, antique light fittings and lamps, Glastonbury has inherited some authentic pieces complementing its heritage.

Notably, Italian Murano glass chandeliers illuminate the master bedroom and a secondary bedroom. An antique English Library Lamp pendant light from approximately the same if not earlier period is an apt centrepiece in the casual dining room. The adjacent kitchen boasts a spectacular eight light French crystal chandelier. (See the inclusion list for a complete list).

The brand new, totally refurbished and extended kitchen has only just been completed. Designed and fabricated by Grant Sheldon, Newcastle cabinetry specialists, this custom kitchen provides superior functionality using equally superior appliances and finishes. Solid Argentinian Palomino granite covers the 3.5 metre island bench as well as the surrounding benches with printed glass splashbacks. Hafele storage systems are configured to ergonomically maximise capacity in every situation.

Possibly the most noticeable transformation has occurred outside. The gardens within the original layout have been tamed. Inspired by English Meadow style gardens, colourful flower beds follow the Bayswater and Addison Road frontages.

By opening up these particular North and East facing sides, natural daylight now penetrates the home, and in the words of the vendor brings light and life into the home.

The floorboards on the wide verandah wrapping around front north east corner; from the entry and along the master bedroom, have been replaced.

This is a wonderful, secluded place to relax and take in the magnificent surroundings, steeped in a long and illustrious history.

Celebrating its grand 105th anniversary this year, Glastonbury like one of our fine Hunter Valley wines, just keeps on improving, year after year.
