This half acre approx. (1,733 sqm) property had a small cottage on it, probably dating from the 1930s or earlier, which was removed in the 1970s. Yamina Rare Plants Nursery, which began in 1954, then acquired the property, adding to its adjoining properties on Moores Rd and Mt Pleasant Rd.
A display garden of rare plants was established in the mid-1970s, plus rows of trees and shrubs for propagation material. Some of these trees still remain on the property after 50 years.
One of the first Golden Larch trees in Australia is now a fine specimen, glowing golden-yellow each autumn. Five large-leafed Magnolia ashei trees were planted in a circle; each summer, the 40-50 cm leaves are topped by 30cm white flowers. A hedge along the bottom corner fence is a hybrid Magnolia (Starbright) raised at Yamina Rare Plants; masses of star-like white flowers smother the branches in spring. There are a number of rare dogwoods, including variegated, pink & white flowered Chinese dogwoods, an evergreen Chinese Cornus and a very special trio of the rare Chinese, Cornus wilsoniana, with its stunning patchwork colored bark of green, cinnamon and white. Other trees include a purple-leafed English oak, golden-leafed red oak, Himalayan spruce, Rimu from New Zealand, blue Noble fir, Incense Cedar, plus a number of weeping maples and other shrubs.
