To be true to the owners, I have taken an extract from the notes provided for this property as it is too special to misquote any part of its history.

The land on which "Yatley" stands was purchased by Charley Oakley of Braidwood on the 13th May 1857. After the death of his wife Phoebe in 1871 his son Henry Oakley, builder from Glebe Sydney bought out his two brothers, James & Charles. Henry Oakley sold the property to George Tweedie, Store-keeper of Braidwood and his wife Emily Tweedie and Edward Gatton from Sydney. According to the conveyance dated 13.3.1881 the purchase was paid for by Emily for their use until after the death of both Emily & George and to then pass on to Edward Gatton.... the ownership goes on for another 110 years from various owners until purchased in 1991 and restored to its former glory by the current owners.. "Yatley" stands tall and proud today overlooking the township and is still one of the grandest homes in Braidwood. 2012 adds a new chapter to the story of "Yatley" and the story continues.....
