“1912 Doctors Residence & Surgery”
Possibly the largest timber residence in Kyogle. This large house was built in 1912 by Dr Evans and was designed to include accommodation for not only his family but also his gardener, groom and maid that traveled from England with him. It was then purchased by Dr Arthur Lewis, who in turn sold it to his son-in-law Dr Bagnell (Bags) Harvey. The house was then purchased by Dr Perry in 1976. The house was renovated in the 1960s with some changes made in the 1970s. The house has had regular maintenance and repair of the structure, including a new roof. The interior is usable but could use modernisation or refurbishment.
The house is set over two blocks of land a few minutes walk to the town centre, schools , hospital and railway station. From the long and wide verandah you can see Mt Barney (Qld.) and the Border Ranges. The house has been home to four doctors and includes a surgery, office and waiting rooms which are suitable for business use or could be easily converted to guest accommodation or a granny flat. With two separate electricity meters the house is ready for business in the home. There are 7 bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a separate toilet. A key feature of the house are formal lounge and dining rooms with back to back open fireplaces. Downstairs there are three rooms including a bathroom, and a large open area comprising laundry and open space. The covered car port can hold up to six cars. Wheelchair access into a wide hallway leads to the office, or kitchen or lounge room. There is a large sloping back garden with a huge frangipani, camellias, even some rainforest trees; lots of potential.
