We love our character homes and this one has been much loved by only 3 owners since it was built in 1912 ... and there's a lot to love, from the warm and cosy family friendly feel of the inviting interiors, to the enticing entertainment options of the outdoors.
Conveniently located on the doorstep to Unley Road, King William Road and nearby Hutt Street, each with cosmopolitan shopping and dining options, you can shop till you drop and eat till you explode. More localised shopping precincts at Fullarton, Unley and Mitcham take care of the everyday essential shopping needs too and various speciality requirements.
If it's comfort, quality and a little bit of resort living you seek, then here it is ... and for those seeking a home where everything is done with the hardest decision being who's coming to your housewarming party, then you must come see this Malvern marvel!
History ...
Andrew Brodie, a Scotsman, born in 1887, left Renfrew (near Glasgow) on a ship bound for Melbourne. His ship docked in Adelaide for the day, but he missed it's departure and decided to stay here in Adelaide. He married Dulcie in 1912 and they moved into brand new 45 Cremorne Street Malvern. Working as part of his father's furniture manufacturing business, he supplied to various retailers until 1930 when he decided to start his own business from home. By the mid 1930's he had become well known throughout the state supplying to suburban and country regions of South Australia, his hand made furniture made from imported timbers which arrived from all over the world. By 1942, timber supplies were low and Andrew Brodie was called up for the war effort where he worked on the building and repair of wooden aircraft frames at Parafield Airport. He died a young man at 56 but upon a trip back to Scotland in 1919, he told his family he was very happy living in South Australia and he would remain here permanently as he did ...
