One of the earliest colony areas in Victoria, Avenel was settled in 1838 with this Historic miners cottage believed to be built around the 1860s. Not claiming that Ned Kelly ever stood on this verandah but we do know that an eleven year old Ned won a bravery award when he rescued young Richard Shelton from Hughes Creek only 300 meters away.
