Tammin is located 184km east of Perth on the Great Eastern Highway. The Shire of Tammin covers an area of 1,087 km and is bounded by the Shires of Kellerberrin, Quairading, Cunderdin and Wyalkatchem.
The Shire of Tammin, including the settlements of Bungulla and Yorkrakine, has a total population of 400. The economy of the Shire is primarily agriculture based.
The community enjoys a Mediterranean type climate with weather ranging from 0C in winter to 40C plus during the summer. The average yearly rainfall is 370mm, which mainly falls in winter.

There is a constant flow of vehicles passing through the town along the Great Eastern Highway. There is a 24 hour service station and supermarket to assist travellers and locals alike.

The town is serviced by the Prospector train with the Railway Station in the centre of Tammin. The journey by rail from Perth takes two and a half hours; by bus about three hours.

Sporting facilities are provided to cater for most sports played in country towns. Senior citizens are well catered for with ten, two bedroom units available in a village concept.
