Owner's musings:
We bought the 20 acre block in 1994, and built the house now known as Snelling Beach Escape in 1995. Initially intended for, and used as, a holiday home for our young family, it morphed into a farmhouse when the almost 500 acre Ilangalisha Farm was purchased in July 2002, and a permanent move was made to Kangaroo Island.
The house has served both uses adequately. The home is well designed to capture the extraordinarily beautiful sea views - to Snelling Beach, rated as one of Australia's top 101 beaches and only a short 3 - 4 minute drive away; and northwards to the southern tip of the Yorke Peninsula and the Althorpe Islands. The views provide a range of moods, during all seasons, ranging from wild seas at times, to flat calm diving pools at others.
The house itself is solidly built of double brick. The main house comprises 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms/laundry, all bedrooms with built-in wardrobes. I have never grown weary of cooking while soaking up the views from the kitchen. The dining room is able to seat 10 - 12 people, and there are two main sitting areas within the house; a sun room, great on wintery days especially, and a lounge area with a woodburning fire place, lending a slightly rustic feel.
Attached to, but separately accessed, is a studio flat, self contained, with kitchen facilities and bathroom. This area has provided private and comfortable accommodation for our extended family and guests, as well as successful income producing accommodation.
Between the two living areas is an enclosed room which has served, over the years, as a games room, extra bedroom, office and gym. It is currently being used as a store room for caretaker access, as both the house and flat are now leased short term through Airbnb.
A beautiful, versatile home, offering peace and privacy in a tightly held area. A haven after a long day on the beach or boat, or after spending time on the farm. Tending to stock, riding motorbikes, or harvesting marron. There is extensive paving around the house, as well as a large lawned area. An additional site has been cleared, and could be used to build a shed, tennis court, extra guest accommodation - a number of choices.
Two dams have been added to the property in recent years, and there is an abundance of wildlife - echidnas, kangaroos and wallabies graze on the lawn at night, and you will find koalas in the trees while wedge tailed eagles soar above.
