Some additional information on the history of the home:

The residence known as Dalton Chemist and Druggist was established in 1856 to service the clients attending the nearby doctor. High Street Kensington South Australia was a bustling village area with horse drawn carriages moving locals to and from The Parade and other areas of Norwood and Kensington up the High Street. There is much history associated with this house, street and area, including a right of way on the neighbouring property to allow for horse access to the well in the rear yard, many of these rights of way are still evident in this area.

Bought in 2003, the current owners Suzy and Andrew Kidd worked with architect John Barrington to bring the crumbling, local heritage listed building back to life. During this process the Kensington Residents Association was consulted and a sympathetic rebuild was undertaken. Demolition revealed very weathered wooden shingles still in place, and most interestingly, several stuffed creatures including a possum, a bird, and a large koala. A taxidermist lived here! The koala had pride of place on a chair watching the works until it disappeared, only to be returned several weeks later. A desire to travel or a child from the school next door?

The original front wall was retained and the dimensions and shape of the original building retained. All brick and stone was retained and reused. New building was constructed, and the property was split to include a two story and single level residence. The two living spaces were again based on historical precedence. The last decision to be made was to repaint the original signage on the front. Dalton Chemist Druggist was reinstated and has added to the local colour and character of this neighbourhood once again.
