What's around Blakiston Road

House description

“'The Creamery' - SOLD!”

If its walls could talk, this former factory would tell a story worthy of its rich past and present beauty...

A red and white vintage sign that reads, "AMSCOL" hangs high against a sea of soft Wistow stone; just one of the many clues that join the historical dots of a heritage home that has twice graced the glossy pages of Australian Country Magazine.

But it's the butter churner sitting idle in the far corner that gives away the most telling tale...

It was 1892 and a co-op of local farmers had become infected by the growing success of cheese factories in neighbouring districts.

Armed with a 2-acre site and a serious case of envy, their stone-laden antidote was finally finished in 1896 - marking the birth of the Blakiston Butter and Cheese Factory.

Carried by cart and led by horse, local farmers would arrive with their fresh milk and leave with a strong sense of community - each of them using this time to spin yarns about life and labour.

Abandoned in 1920 - following Amscol's 10-year reign -- its sturdy stone walls were left to stand silent before beginning a journey of resurrection.

'The Creamery" (as aptly named by it former owners) stands today as a bonafide home headlined by the 18-inch-thick walls and soaring 4.5-metre-high cedar ceilings that defined it as a factory.

A mezzanine - and its adjacent bedroom - hovers above a gargantuan, light-filled living area, where those eclectic clues feature with consistent regularity.

The large, country style kitchen marks the introduction of a wing that also hosts two more bedrooms, including a master with its own walk-in robe, ensuite and private access to the enchanting country gardens of its hidden corner block.

If the Poplar trees could talk, they'd tell a beautiful story, too.
