18 years ago, our son was 5 years old and we wanted a place that was quiet, spacious, close to many of Sydney’s best private schools, and above all else, safe. After looking for months, we accidently found this house and immediately bought it prior to auction; we then spent a small fortune giving it a new lease of life. To ensure our comfort year-round, we had air-conditioning installed in all areas of the house.
In the ensuing 18 years it has proven to be everything we hoped it would be.
Many of our neighbours are doctors, company executives or retirees and they all choose to live here for the same reasons we did; it is safe, quiet, and close to everything we need; homes in this small pocket rarely stay on the market very long as it is considered rare and highly desirable.
Our son is now 23, and it is time for us oldies to retire and move north to the beach where we can forget about the pressures of the workday in Sydney.
As with many houses built in the early 70’s the bedrooms are large by today’s standards, this removes the claustrophobic feeling you find when bedrooms are designed to be small to accommodate a low construction cost while building on a postage stamp size block of land.
On the weekend we often sit on the front balcony with a cup of tea, and no cars go past yet we are only 1km from the substantial St Ives shopping centre and 15 minutes from Chatswood.
We have loved the large swimming pool which sits comfortably in a well-manicured and substantial English style garden; there are flowers in our garden every day of the year. We recently had the work completed to have the pool certified as compliant.
The rear of the house has a large living room, and we spend most of our time here as it is a large and comfortable area overlooking the pool and large rear garden.
There is a formal dining room and lounge which we rarely use but they are both perfectly presented and our guests have always commented positively on the layout.
We have a shoe off policy thus the carpet looks great and does not need replacement.
To love this house you must like space, safety, peace and fiddling in the garden.
