What's around Cape Tribulation

House description

“Alkira Resort House, Opportunity Knocks”

Alkira's existence is primarily due to its timing, the deep pockets of the original owner-developer, the architect's vision, and the ability to meet or exceed regulatory and environmental requirements. A new project of similar scale and location would face tighter scrutiny today, and the costs would be prohibitive.

2017: Alkira is a once-in-a-lifetime property - an iconic cyclone-proof residence and the oceanfront land where the rainforest meets the reef, which is why the vendor purchased it. He was amazed that a substantial landholding, situated between two of UNESCO's World Heritage sites-the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef-would be owned outright. And what an iconic property it is, with multiple national and international architecture awards, and built with over 6,000 tonnes of concrete. That was then, and this is now.

2025: Since then, the vendor, now with high school-aged children competing in national sports events, has had to involve himself directly in the operations of his Melbourne-based businesses. Alkira, once a lifestyle property, is now a redundant asset, and the vendor must sell. During his eight-year tenure as the owner-custodian of Alkira Resort House, the vendor has made substantial investments in the infrastructure, accommodations, and furnishings.

Alkira's off-grid infrastructure and systems, including water, gas, electricity, and biospectic, incurred significant upfront construction costs. The result for the next buyer is exponential savings, operating self-sufficiency, and minimising the environmental impact.

A three-bedroom, two-bathroom manager's residence, named Mango House, with a separate driveway, was completed in 2018 and is fully furnished and equipped. The Alkira House accommodates 12 guests in six bedroom suites, each with an ensuite and balcony, furnished and equipped to a high standard.

Alkira operates as a luxury boutique eco-resort, attracting $3,000 per night with a three-night minimum stay. Film companies have hired the property for use as a set in a Hollywood blockbuster movie and a reality television program. News Corp's leading editors selected Alkira as the 4th best in the 'Top 50 Houses in Queensland, 2023', and the accolades go on.

The commercial kitchen, along with ample seating and entertaining areas, makes it an ideal destination restaurant, attracting diners from Port Douglas and regional tourists.

An onsite manager has been hired and lives with his family at the Mango House. They are responsible for general maintenance, cleaning, landscape works, ground transfers to and from the Cairns Airport, greeting guests and owners, and handling shopping and other routine tasks. In general, everything is taken care of, allowing the new owners to enjoy Alkira whether they are in-house or not, with services catering to both resort guests and the property itself, ensuring its ongoing maintenance.

Six guest suites, each with an ensuite and private balcony, are separately keyed to function like a resort, offering reservation options to book Alkira House in its entirety for one group of 12 or to book each room separately, double occupancy for six guest rooms. Shared common areas feature three seating zones with large-screen TVs and a game room.

Vehicles include a 10-passenger Alkira-branded coach with a luggage trailer for airport transfers, as well as two Polaris recreational vehicles for driving around town, around the property, and to Alkira's private beach.

Gated, secluded, and private, Alkira is an exclusive eco-retreat situated in an established tourism destination that has a shortage of luxury accommodations.

Cape Tribulation is like nowhere else on Earth.
Start with its setting in a 135 million-year-old rainforest, Cape Tribulation is a close-knit community, free from crowds and urban distractions. It is famed for its wildlife, not pubs and fancy restaurants, but rather for being home to exotic creatures like Estuarine crocodiles, Southern cassowaries and Ulysses butterflies. Highlighting the Daintree Rainforest's status as one of the world's oldest and most biologically diverse rainforests, Cape Tribulation attracts eco-conscious travellers, adventure enthusiasts, and curious learners.

A 30-minute boat trip to Lower Isle, one of the Great Barrier Reef's top spots for snorkelling and diving, is a popular Cape Tribulation excursion that operates daily.

The local cafes and restaurants are renowned for their fresh ocean seafood and regionally-sourced produce. Cooking at Alkira House is a delight, thanks to the stainless steel commercial kitchen, walk-in fridge, 2,400-bottle wine cellar, and seating for 12 guests, with space for extra tables. The Alkira manager can organise a private chef if cooking isn't your thing, to host a lunch or dinner party.

You can get there fast, then take it slow.
Daintree Ferry River - crossing from Mossman to Cape Tribulation
With works commencing after the 2026 Wet Season, the Douglas Shire Council has allocated $9 million for infrastructure and civil engineering works, including a new ferry vessel with four lanes, to be finished by November 2027. These improvements aim to minimise congestion, reduce wait times, and provide a reliable and efficient crossing for locals, tradespeople, deliveries, and tourists.
The drive from Port Douglas takes about 1½ hours, and it's 2½ hours from both Cairns International and Domestic Airports.

Helicopter direct
Alkira features a dedicated helipad, serviced by Nautilus Aviation, located 15 minutes by flight from Port Douglas and 30 minutes from Cairns. Upon arrival, the Alkira manager collects guests for a two-minute drive to the Alkira House.
