What's around Chock-N-Log Bay

Rural Property description

“Chock 'N' Log Bay”

Private Lake Leake frontage on Chock 'N' Log Bay provides a feeling of remoteness in the Eastern Highlands but in reality you are less than 2 kilometres from the local tavern! The renowned Lake Leake Chalet offers old country style bar facilities, quality meals and accommodation. The regional towns of Swansea and Campbell Town are only 30 minutes drive away whilst Launceston is 1 hour to the north. There is a flat lakeside area, scattered with mature White Gums which offers any number of beautiful cabin sites along the shoreline STCA. Such privacy with 'freehold' title is rare on these popular fishing lakes. Lake Leake supports a sustainable Brown Trout population whilst the Government Department of Inland Fisheries regularly restock the waters with Brook and Rainbow trout. Well maintained gravel roads provide access to much of the country and many vantage points overlooking Lake Leake.

The total area is 311 hectares (768 acres or thereabouts). Some areas of this Dry Sclerophyll forest which is dominated by Eucalyptus delegatenis have been selectively logged. In time, this high rainfall region (altitude range 550m to 722m ASL) will regenerate into a valuable timber or carbon resource.
Distance via sealed road to Campbell Town is 31km or Swansea 38km.

History of the region:
At the time of completion in 1886, Lake Leake was the largest man-made lake in Australia. Covering an area of 607 hectares (1500 acres) the lake is situated at 570m ASL (2300 feet). Since the early 1900?s it has been breeding Rainbow and Brown Trout. Approximately 80 shacks have been built on Crown Land since 1937.
