The Old Schoolhouse (circa 1856) in Hamilton is arguably one of the prettiest buildings in the Derwent Valley.

The imposing two storey sandstone building was designed by architects Davidson & Spong in a style that incorporates both Georgian and Victorian Gothic influences, twelve-paned windows and is crowned with a fully functional bell-tower which has called many generations of young Hamilton children to the start of the school day. It accommodated eighty children in two classrooms on the ground floor with the second storey of the building being used as the private residence for the Headmaster. The school continued to be utilised through to the 20th century and in 1935 a new weatherboard school was built to the side of the schoolhouse.

Today the main residence consists of 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, formal dining, lounge & sitting room, all furnished with fireplaces. In addition, there are 2 separate self-contained cottages (2 bedrooms & 1 bathroom each) that are fully equipped for B&B accommodation. Set on 1.256 ha there is still ample room for cottage agricultural pursuits as well as several outbuildings including a workshop, garage, large woodshed and even a goat shed!

The Old Schoolhouse is just under an hours travel time through the scenic Derwent Valley from the Hobart CBD, a very popular tourist route to the West Coast. Please note that the vendor reserves the right to accept offers prior to the closing date.
