After 112 years of faithful service, Saint Brendan's Catholic Church at Savernake is offered for sale. The church was consecrated in October 1911 and de-consecrated in March this year.
The village of Savernake is located just 30 kilometres north of the Murray River twin towns of Mulwala & Yarrawonga, 97 km from Albury/Wodonga, 314 km from Melbourne and 627 km from Sydney.

There are 10 parcels of land for sale with the church, Lots 1 to 9 in DP 758896 and also Lot 1 in DP 134659. The total area is 16,806 square metres - 1.68 hectares (4.15 acres).

Saint Brendan's Church is of red brick construction with a galvanised iron roof; the nave (or main body) of the church measures 13m x 8.5 m, with an entrance vestibule measuring 2.5m x 3.5m and the sacristry behind the altar measuring 5m x 5m. Flooring is mostly polished hardwood with some polished Murray Pine. The power was disconnected after the church closed in March.
A lock up garden shed measures 3m x 3.5 m and a plastic tank with 2,700 litre capacity catches roof water. A memory from yester-years is the outback dunny (can operated!).

The village of Savernake is zoned Rural (RU1), so recent advice from the Federation Shire was that the current planning does not allow the church to be converted to a home or for a home to be built on the land. See below:

"The zoning indicates the following:
The land is zone - RU1 Primary Production
The minimum lot size for a dwelling on RU1 zoned land is 250 HA.
Therefore, the construction of a new dwelling would be prohibited due to the zoning and lot size, likewise the change of use to a dwelling would also be prohibited for the same reason.
Outside of this advice any prospective buyers should seek independent planning advice."
