A cherished and elevated homesite - the jewel in the crown that is perched on top of the hill at secluded Garners Beach where you can keep a watchful eye on your boat which is moored in safe anchorage below.
This north-facing, elevated beachfront allotment of 2740m is 45m above sea level and has the advantage of attracting the warmth of the sun in winter and catches those year-round south easterly breezes in summer. Absolutely secluded and serene yet only a 12 minute drive away from the Mission Beach shopping village for wining and dining. It's just under 2 hours drive north to Cairns, if you prefer some livelier, vibrant action of the city.
STEEPED IN HISTORY: This never-to-be repeated location holds lots of historical appeal as this area was once frequented by the late Prime Minister, Sir Harold Holt. Zara & Harold Holt visited the Bussts on Bedarra Island in the 1960's. They loved the beauty of the Mission Beach area so much that they bought the land at Garners Beach overlooking the Coral Sea. As Treasurer, Harold wrote his budgets at Bingil Bay. When he became Australia's Prime Minister in January 1966, he was still treated as a local and his privacy respected while the family took a much deserved holiday in their "shack". Helicopters would transfer vital government documents from Townsville for the Prime Minister's signature. The owners of this prestigious allotment recall how the helicopter landed on the beach and men in suits carefully carried an attache case up to where he resided. It was later revealed that the mysterious case contained the daily newspaper and this became a frequent occurrence. Private documents, newspapers......Holt & Buust (artist & lover of beauty) used to sell coconuts and pineapples at the corner near the El Arish Tavern and their Portsea entourage, bikini-clad, would soak up the atmosphere of the local pub. Holt Close & Holt Road perpetuate his name in the area.
Garners Beach is a very special place and is home to a myriad of wildlife. The plant-life is amazing and spectacularly beautiful with a startling display of colours and tropical plants grow profusely and unaided in this wonderful climate.
Follow the secluded and shaded track to the summit of the hill and you'll discover another world where the ocean views are breath-taking, the breezes are welcome and the summers are sublime.
Watch the boats go sailing by over a vast expanse of ocean, with the Barnard Islands in the distance, covered in a dense green blanket of thick tropical green foliage.
Simply stunning and well worth waiting for at a price of $395,000
