House description

“"Rivelin" was built between 1934 and 1966 by a local 6th generation stonemason”

"Rivelin" was built between 1934 and 1966 by a local 6th generation stonemason, it has been in the same family for 85 years.
The house is made of solid stone including all internal first floor walls. There is approximately 500 tons of stone in the building. The detailing of the stonework is a particularly fine example of the skills of a master mason.
The outer walls are 40 cm thick, making the house cool in summer and retaining its heating in winter.
The stone in the house is mainly reclaimed from buildings in the local area which was acquired when these buildings were being demolished or re-modelled.
•The three-sectioned window facing the street. This window is the original window from the Commercial Bank, Muswellbrook, except for the seven pieces of coloured stone which comprise the lintel. These stones were quarried near Muswellbrook in 1960 and were worked on site.
•The windowsill of the western facing window in the front bedroom. This sill was the original front step of St Luke's Anglican Church, Scone. It has been inscribed on the under side with the details of its origin and of the house.
•The cedar front door was the original door of the Commercial Bank in Muswellbrook and is approximately 170 years old. The name "Rivelin" was sand blasted onto the fanlight in the 1970s.
•The cedar staircase was made of local cedar from Warrah Creek, near Murrurrundi.
•The beautiful cypress pine flooring was sourced from Owen's Gap
•The time capsule in the north east corner was placed into the foundations of the house in the 1950s and contains coins and a history of the house and the owner's family.

This beautiful large 5 bedroom, two bathroom home would be perfect for a business, boutique accommodation or as a beautiful home centrally located.
