I never really liked the shopping centre there, always seemed a little dingy and unsafe to me. I felt like getting in and out pretty quickly so I could be on my way. Might have been improved since then. But, Karawara is a reasonable location near Curtin UNi, but it would be good to select your location based on your neighbours if possible. There is not much to rent around there, because they are already taken by other students- but a whole bunch of uni students in one place might not give you the stability you are looking for - even if it is relatively safe. Apply the usual rules, don't walk alone at night, locking doors and cars. If you don't want to get caught up in the activities of other students - which may or may not be 'safe' then look out for a few mature people on the street you select.
