Reviews of Kingston, ACT

"Excellent place to live, filled with merriment."

Kingston is a glorious suburb that is not one dimensional. Old Kingston has a lovely vibe with traditional shop fronts and pubs, with the foreshore filled with merriment coming from the array of bars, pubs, cafe's and restaurants. The area is filled with young professionals, but also retirees - the result is a dynamic suburb with a true community feeling.

Public transport access is excellent, particularly for those working in Russell, Barton and the City. There is heaps of green space considering the population density, an amazing local supermarket, multiple gyms and friendly medical centres.

Looking for a home in Kingston?

"good place to live"

I have lived in Kingston for two years safe and comfortable place to live.

There are two reviews for Kingston (mine will be the third), one rated 5 stars the other 1 star. To the person who rated 1 star, are you sure you are living in Kingston? You claim there is a lot of crime in this suburb? Not true.

If in doubt I recommend going to the ACT policing web page and you will be able to compare all crimes in all suburbs in the ACT. You will see from the Federal Police crime stats crime here is one of the lowest in the ACT.

Mr 1 star advises housing is expensive in Kingston, not true. Compare the pricing here with pricing in Sydney.

"The Cultural Capital of Canberra"

Cafes, parks, nightlife, beautiful scenery - Kingston has it all. Weekends buzz with coffee drinkers, kids play in Telopea Park, it's a short walk down to the foreshore of Lake Burley Griffin, and it's home to some of the best restaurants in the city. I've lived on Giles St. for the last five years, and I would never consider moving.
Sure, it is a pretty expensive part of town, but that's what you get for living in a place that is beautiful, stylish, and exciting.
Telopea Park school is a short walk across the park, there's a pre-school on Giles St., and it's a feeder suburb for Narrabundah College, which is consistently one of the highest-rated colleges in the territory. For those who want to send their children to private schools, St. Edmunds and St. Clare's are within walking distance on Canberra Avenue.
This is really the cultural hub of the ACT. My apartment has views to the lake and to Black Mountain, and I can watch the sun set from my balcony over a glass of wine. Truly a wonderful place to live.

"Overpriced and unsafe"

Kingston is convenient for the city and a short walk to good restaurants. There the positives end. There is a serious dark side to the area in terms of crime. Attacks on property and cars are increasing, as is burglary and seemingly, the police are unable to remedy the situation.

We only currently rent in the area – we are so pleased we didn’t buy there. The properties are grossly overpriced. Many of the properties have large locked gates to their properties and it would seem they are living in a prison. This review may sound harsh, but the reality of living here over a prolonged period can be much harsher for some poor people who have invested a lot of money in their new home. We’re moving from the area soon, and quite frankly, it won’t be soon enough!

Great for

Not great for

  • Crime
  • Properties - excemptionally poor value for money
