Ways to stay cool in your home over summer

Summer is a great time of the year! There is an aura of change and the belief that the sun just makes all things better. In this time however you will want a chance to escape the heat so we’ve come up with some suggestions to try and stay cool in your home over the summer.
1. Use simple items: Remember those bottles they use at the hairdresser just before they cut your hair? Picking up one of these can be a great idea to spray cool water over your hair and face. Alternatively a gardening spray bottle will do the trick.
2. Stay low….. to the ground!: Year 7 science taught us that hot air rises, when we see those hot air balloons rise in the morning it’s because the hot air is pushing it up. Therefore, staying as low to the ground as possible will help escape the heat.
3. Keep the alcohol to a minimum: It’s so tempting on a hot day to drink a few beers, however in the long run the alcohol will dehydrate you leaving you exposed to dehydration and feeling even worse in the heat. Drinking water and electrolytes will help with hydration.
Ginger Ice Tea: Cold, tropical drinks without alcohol can be one of the best ways to rehydrate and stay cool.
Ingredients:
- 5 tea bags
- 1-inch piece of fresh ginger
- Sugar, to taste
Method:
Slice ginger root into thin slices and crush. Heat 1 part of the water and let tea steep with the ginger. Let steep over low heat for at least 10 minutes. Strain out tea and ginger slices and add sugar. Let cool and serve over ice.

Finally, use common sense, if you’re feeling the heat, the best place to be is inside. Don’t overdo it, as you might feel alright initially, but the heat can catch up to you!
