Simplifying Your Home Life in Two Easy Steps

Every person has his or her own idea of what a simple life means. For many, it can mean working to eliminate things you don’t need, and leaving chaos behind in favour of peace. This will allow you to spend time doing things that are important to you. Have a read of the ideas in order to make sure you can make living as simple as possible.

Simplifying Is a Journey

Even though you will move forward when you simplify your house and your life, it isn’t an easy process. Sometimes it will seem like you take just two steps forward and then one backward.

First Steps

Writing in depth lists can be a great way to ensure you proactively get the right things done.  Writing in depth lists can be a great way to ensure you proactively get the right things done.

List the four or five things you feel are most important to you. Everything from here on will revolve around what is important for you.

Evaluate your time. What do you do all day, from morning to evening? Jot down a list and check to see if everything is on your list of important things. Eliminate anything that is not on your list.

Evaluate the commitments you have made as well. Look at the things happening in your life. From your work schedule to other commitments, children’s activities and hobbies, which give you real value? Which commitments fall into place in your most important list? Drop the ones that are not in line with what is most important to you.

Simplification

Simplify your tasks at home. Think about the many things you do while you’re at home. It may surprise you if your home task list is as long as the one you will make for your work. The longer the lists, the less likely that both will be completed. Focus on important tasks and eliminate the rest.

Simplify your tasks at work too. Your workday is probably one long list of tasks that must be accomplished. If you have too many tasks and not enough time, eliminate the tasks that are not on your most important list. Delegate these tasks so that you are making more free time.

Place Your Own Limitations on Your Time

Limit the time you spend communicating all day. Your life is probably filled with forums, Twitter, Skype, mobile phones, IM and email. Limit the amount of time you spend in communicating with all your devices. Set a schedule and do your best to stick with it.

Learning how to say “no” is an important part of your daily routine, and will save you a good deal of time. People who cannot say no usually take on too much work.

Limiting your consumption of media can save a lot of time in your day. If you use the Internet, radio and TV to keep informed and in touch, they can dominate your time. Limiting your consumption will free up a lot of time every day.

Eradicate things if you can. When you spend time getting rid of things you don’t need any more, it will empower you and give you more control over your life. Pick up rubbish bags or boxes for things you don’t want anymore. They can be separated, depending on things you want to donate and things you will be throwing away. It is liberating, and will give you much more time to do what is important to you.
