2017 is shaping up to be a massive year in the tiling world, with more and more people daring to create stunning feature walls with decorative tiles in their wet areas. Tiles that dare to be different are going to be the new black (or concrete grey) for 2017.

Here are our predictions of the top 6 trends for tile design in 2017:

1. Geometric

2016 saw a rise in the hexagon tile and 2017 is going to take this trend of geometric shapes above and beyond, with more exotic shapes taking centre stage. Look out for stunning picket porcelain tiles in a range of styles and colours. Geometric tiles create a bold, contemporary look. Add a dash of colour to take it to the next level.

2. Texture

No longer will you see plain tiles on bathroom and kitchen walls, with textured tiles coming into vogue. You’ll be seeing texture in the form of patterns but also surfaces that have a textured finish that you won’t be able to stop yourself touching. This will range from brick lookalikes to classic Spanish patterns. This look will create a fun and inviting space anywhere in the house.

3. Inconsistent colours

Gone are the days of perfectly coloured neat tiles. In 2017 you will notice a rise in patchy, inconsistent colour or worn out looking tiles. This look will create that hand made; authentic feel people are now wanting from their tiles. The beauty will be in the way each tile looks unique as if it is a one off.

4. 3D

3D tiles are the new contender for 2017 with people wanting to take their love of geometric tiles up a notch. 3D tiles literally make a room ‘pop’ and provide a feature wall like no other! 3D tiles are taking over the splash back world, as well as feature walls in bathrooms. With a range of different styles coming on the market, including for floors, there’ll be a style to suit every project. So dare to be different and stand out (literally!) from the rest with 3D tiles.

5. Subways

The ever-faithful subway tile will continue to reign supreme in 2017. However, more styles, colours, textures and finishes are flooding the market with a combination of the first four trends discussed above being incorporated in the subway market. You’ll see people taking subway laying to a whole new level with the brick pattern being over shadowed by vertical laying and herringbone becoming the new favourite.

6. Blue/green tones

2017 will see blue/green shades being the colours of the year! Pantone have announced the shade ‘Greenery’ as the colour of the year for 2017 and this will be reflected all throughout the design world, including interior tile design.

We hope these bold tile design trends have inspired you to take a more daring approach in your tile selection in 2017. For more inspiration check out these bathroom tile trends we love.
