Belle Isle is an excellent park.

Belle Isle is amazing but unfortunately it's no longer a public park and you need an annual park permit to enter. The best free public park (in my opinion) is the Alfred Brush Ford Park located on the east side of Detroit near Grosse Point and along the Detroit River.
