Manhattan Beach is great if you want to go to the beach and then go shopping. For pure, uncrowded beach "RAT" (Redondo and Torrance) Beach down along the Esplanade is wonderful. And Dockweiler State Beach still allows bonfires last I heard!

Hermosa Beach and that spills up to Manhattan Beach with the same care and volleyball. Best to live here and park in your own driveway. The parking is not easy.

Hermosa Beach, Zuma Beach and a great hidden beach on Catalina Island. I forget the name.

I really like Manhattan Beach. The beach is clean and not too crowded. You can play a game of beach volley ball, surf, or boogie board. It has bathrooms and showers. The parking can be a bit of a problem, so I would suggest to get there early on weekends.
