Are people living in Malvern very welcoming and friendly?

We are a young family with two boys aged 6yrs & 3yrs. We are relocating from Auckland to Melbourne at the end of the year and are looking for a suburb to rent (and eventually buy in) that has beautiful period homes, nice community family feel, great shops and restaurant/cafe options. It also needs to have good public primary schools and close to good private secondary schools. We visited a number of areas and liked the look of Malvern. I'd be interested to know how Malvern compares to Armadale and Malvern East in terms of people and friendliness? Also, if anyone has views on which primary school is better - Malvern Central School or Malvern Primary School? Thanks in advance!
