The commute to NYC is amazing! The train to Penn Station is between 28-38 minutes depending on if you catch an express train or not. The trains run very frequently during the day and you can find the schedule at http://lirr42.mta.info/.
Driving with out traffic I have made it to the midtown tunnel in 21 minutes, without speeding! In times of heavy traffic it can of course take a bit longer.
