@NeverSleeps don't know how I missed this post- love Calle Ocho and my local Pio Pio but I also like the Argentinian steak houses in the city like the Buenos Aires restaurant on 6th street and Avenue A.Tiny but wonderful. I also like the La Porteña Restaurant y Parrillada in Jackson Heights.
I think that Azul restaurant in the Lower East Side is an Argentine steakhouse as well - and it's none too shabby.
Does that Caracas place also have a location in Williamsburg?
@uptowngirl Yeah, this posting was really lonely for a long time! I think I'll look into this Buenos Aires place.
@BroadwayBK Yeah, they have two locations - I just realized!
@NeverSleeps do make sure you make reservations before you try Buenos Aires for its a tiny spot - the night that I chose to visit was rainy and cold and we were waiting for a while outside before we could get seated.
I love Calle Ocho! It's fantastic! For some reason I thought it closed down - guess I could never find it again after a meal or two there....but glad it's still around!
@uptowngirl Thanks for the tip.
Everyone says that Caracas place is pretty good... I need me a boyfriend to take out on the town. Restaurants are so much more accessible when you are dating someone in this city.
Yeah, I feel awkward sitting alone at some restaurants. I tend to take a book or laptop, though, and go for lunch rather than dinner. Somehow the sunlight makes it less awkward than the oh-la-la candlelight
@ajadedidealist I completely agree. NYC is an ideal city for the loner - just not so much at night.
@BroadwayBK, ajadedidealist that's so true... my husband is sometimes held up at work and can't get to a restaurant where we have dinner reservations on time. I feel mighty awkward sitting at the table waiting for him for I tend not to order a drink until he gets there. Once I waited at our local Italian- Il Riccio on 79th and Lexington for more than an hour!
